We had a wonderful Sabbath visit with Lark and Val. It was waaaay to short, only a few hours! I had tried out some new Indian recipes, and found one to keep and one never to try again. I miss Lark so much. she was one of my best friends growing up we flew off to Springvale Academy together, and attended dozens of camps and youth group trips together as well. The sweet thing about our friendship is that the passing of time and the great distance has done little to diminish it. When one of us finally makes contact again, it as if no time has passed at all. I pray she will always reamin my dear friend. and also her hubby Val is cool too. He is like the extra brother I never had. you know, the one who didn't tease me incessnatly. We geeked out together over homebrewing, and I got tons of advice and will begin my first fermentation project as soon as I can get ahold of the equipment.
Now, back to the daily grind. I take the weekends off from cleaning, and I am beginning to think this isn't such a great idea. I had lots of fun on Sunday, shopping and clipping coupons but now I beleive every dish in my kitchen is dirty. If we are going to have breakfast at all today I need to get cracking. But I just don't want too.
One woman's journey to Simplicity, Contentment, and Satisfaction in all of life's Seasons..........This season: Lots of Littls at home with daddy, a preemie in the NICU with me living close by, seperated from the rest of the family.

Potty training disaster
So, I decided to potty train both my boys at once, using the three day method my cousin Sharon recommended...It worked quite well for her daughter. Well, doing two at once was a total disaster. Garrett was back at work and I had quite a few hilarious/annoying potty spills. I did learn some valuable info, however. My boys are on a very similar schedule. When I would catch one and put him on the potty, the other would immediately have an accident. I quickly learned to herd them both into the bathroom and close the door! S. would retreat to the corner and pee while I was helping J. The funniest/most stressful moment came when we were doing dishes. S. was playing in the water and started to go, I quickly snatched him up and ran to the potty, I sat him down and he stopped. we waited a bit, changed him and went back only for him to repeat the performance FOUR more times. Apparently the child cannot pee unless he is standing up. J. my three year old did not fare much better, I was often quite distracted with little brother and missed opportunities with him as well. He did stay dry during nap, but had an accident while climbing out of his bed (right onto the changing table, I might add) we will soon see if he made it through the night.
For the sake of my sanity, the floor, and the boy's ability to go, I have decided to just focus on J. at the moment. S. is back in diapers and will remain so for at least the next two weeks! Furtehr updates will come.
I do have a busy day, my sister in law and her baby and a friend with her newborn will be coming over for lunch and I NEED to get this place cleaned up, QUICK!

Caught with my apron on...
or off... whichever is worse in your eyes! So, I cheated a bit on my media fast. My netflix movie came in this weekend and I sat down to watch it...with a mountain of laundry to fold. At least that is what I told myself as I ignored the call of the kitchen and the two days worth of dirty dishes...and the toys on the floor...and the piles of dirty laundry in the hall.... So there I am indulging myself in a costumed drama, haphazardly folding laundry, and my doorbell rings. It's my new neighbor who (I had forgotten all about) came over as invited! Still dressed up from church.
OOPS
I stood at the door in a panic, tried to do a quick re-schedule, realized how rude it was and then invited her in anyway. She was very gracious and we had a lovely chat, as I scrambled about picking items up so she had a place to sit and madly hoping she didn't find my stretch-pants and over sized eighties sweater a bit too ridiculous. I just kept thinking of my mother and how she got dressed first thing in the morning and always had the house clean by noon...
I think I should do this more often. Having people over that is. I was surprised to learn that we have alot in common....We went to the same high school, are both newly-weds, homemakers, bakers and home cooks, followers of Jesus, we share some of the same rather unusual theological viewpoints, aspire to be better domestic divas, we even know alot of the same people....
It does strike me as odd all that we have in common...I often lament the fact that there are no other young moms/homemakers in my complex as I spend most of my time here as I am still without a car. It seems this slightly awkward start to a friendship just might be an answer to a prayer I didn't know I needed.
Tomorrow I will get up early, and continue my media fast, and get dressed immediately, and clean my house as per my Home-Management Binder schedule---and I will continue to do my usual routine so I can be prepared next time I invite someone over and they actually come.
